“Sometimes even I am pleasantly surprised when a passing glance or a friend’s fresh perspective catches details from a different light that may add another aspect or even re-direct the message within the work.
I just paint ‘em, although it seems like the best ones paint themselves. It’s an amazing feeling to watch your hands create something beautiful and accept that the most important thing is to keep conscious thought from interfering when the creative brain is cooking and in direct line as the hands, the paints, and the blank page become one multi-colored mystery. I have to let my hand be free and share the joy that only my brain can see.
My favorite feeling is when the painting says it is done and then I stand back and take my first real look at what just happened. The greatest critical acclaim I will ever hear is when my inadvertent reaction, coming from somewhere deep inside and surprising me every time, is ‘Wow!’”.
