San Miniato

This oil pastel on xeroxed photo paper is one of a series of small original paintings Sandro Del Rosario has created for his film, “Lo Sguardo Italiano” (The Italian Gaze), a work at the crossing point between documentary, experimental film and animation art.  This vividly colorful landscape captures the magnificent view of the hill where lies the church San Miniato al Monte, in Florence, one of the places Sandro loved most when he lived there.   Arts That Work is thrilled to offer these miniature paintings, soon to be unveiled in Sandro’s film.  This 4” x 5 ¼” painting has been finished with a white and archival toned mat.  The matted piece measures 10” x 10 ½”.

Bogliasco

This miniature original oil pastel on xeroxed photo paper is another offering straight from Sandro Del Rosario’s film, “Lo Sguardo Italiano” (The Italian Gaze).  A lovely composition, this depicts the front side of an old church in the little village of Bogliasco, Italy, located in the Riviera Ligure.  Sandro loves the Spanish and Arab influence in this building, which reminds him of Mexican architecture.  The painting measures 4” x 5 ¼”.  The artist has matted the piece in a white and archival tone, measuring 10” x 10 ½”. 

Mare

“Mare” means “sea” in Italian.  This beautifully expansive waterscape in miniature mirrors Sandro’s connection with the sea.  “I love the sea, I was born by the sea and it’s definitely part of my identity.”   The degree of abstraction in this lovely 4” x 5 ¼” oil pastel on xeroxed photo paper is captivating and the colors are simply magical.  This is another is Sandro’s group of offerings from his upcoming film, “Lo Sguardo Italiano” (The Italian Gaze).   The artist has matted the piece with white and archival toned matting.  Total matted piece measures 10” x 10 ½”.

Trees

Once again Sandro shares with us two of his fabulous miniature paintings from the film he is creating, “Lo Sguardo Italiano” (The Italian Gaze), in a lovely original oil pastel composition.  Both of these 4” x 5 ¼” paintings portray magical views of the water from the gates of Villa Pini’s pine garden in Bogliasco, Italy.  These artistic expressions have an almost photographic quality, yet manage to sustain an ethereal otherworldliness that only an enlightened eye can capture.   The entire matted composition measures 10” x 18”.

Duomo

Sandro has cleverly combined two of the glorious original paintings from his upcoming animated film to bring us a stunning composition of color and majesty in miniature.  The Duomo façade and the Battistero, in Florence, are masterfully portrayed in these varying representations of the grand architecture.  The colorful depiction of the rose window is particularly intoxicating.  Each of the oil and pastel on photo paper paintings measures 4” x 5 ¼”.  The total composition, on white and archival matting, measures 10” x 18 ". 

Duo

Sandro has painted a large version of one of the smaller renderings produced for his film.  This acrylic on canvas measures 47” x 57” and is a close up and almost abstract cut of the Duomo façade and the Bell tower at its side in Florence.  Behind them, like a ghost presence, the red cupola of the Duomo appears to be watching.  What a glorious artistic endeavor!
